Profile

Spencer "The King" Fisher (born May 9, 1976) is an American professional mixed martial artist training out of the Miletich Fighting Systems.

He stands 5 ft. 7 in. (170 cm) tall and fights in the lightweight division (155 lbs.).

Fisher was the Victor Fighting Championships middleweight champion and currently fights as a lightweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

Spencer Fisher made his professional mixed martial arts debut on August 17, 2002 at a Victory Fighting Championships event - VFC 2: Bragging Rights - where he submitted Ryan Heckert with an armbar at the 2:24 mark of round 1.

Fisher's next three bouts all came on the same night at VFC 3: Total Chaos where he defeated all three opponents via finishes in the first round to capture the VFC middleweight title.

By the end of January 2004, Fisher had amassed an 8-0 record with all victories via stoppage or submission.

In the first defense of his VFC championship he faced fellow mid-west product and prospect, Josh Neer. In a war that went the full five, five minute rounds, Fisher was adjudged, somewhat controversially, the split decision victory.

Just over two months later, Fisher dropped his first professional bout at a Freestyle Fighting Championships event against future WEC competitor, Carlo Prater. He was defeated via unanimous decision after three rounds.

Fisher responded to the loss in grand style as he went on to score five victories in his next five fights with all of the wins coming via finish in either the first or second round.

UFC Career

On October 3, 2005, Fisher made his debut for the UFC. He faced Thiago Alves in a welterweight bout at UFC Fight Night 2 and submitted the talented Brazilian with a triangle choke in the second round.

Three months later at UFC Fight Night 3, Fisher returned to action against Aaron Riley. At the end of the first round, doctors stopped the fight due to the amount of damage Riley had suffered in the first round.

After defeating Randy Hauer on a smaller promotion in February of 2006, Fisher filled in on short notice for an injured Kenny Florian to face Canadian, Sam Stout on the undercard of UFC 58. The bout was the first lightweight match to be held in the UFC since the weightclass was abandoned back in 2004. In an excellent bout that saw some torrid exchanges on the feet and some good groundwork, the fight eventually went to the scorecards with Stout taking a razor thin split decision.

Fisher got back into the win column at UFC 60, when he knocked out future TUF 5 contestant, Matt Wiman with a flying knee in the second round.

Having been originally scheduled to face future WEC lightweight champion, Jamie Varner, at UFC 62, Fisher was forced to pull out with an injury and instead got back in the octagon at UFC 64, Fisher scored a TKO over the debuting Dan Lauzon on the show's undercard.

In January of 2007 at UFC Fight Night 8, Fisher faced off against Hermes Franca on the main card. Fisher got caught in the second round and after Franca followed up with some devastating punches on the feet, the fight was called in Franca's favor and Fisher was given the first stoppage loss of his career.

At UFC Fight Night 10, Fisher headlined the card in a rematch with Sam Stout. In another excellent bout, Fisher was given the nod this time when the fight went to decision.

Fisher was then matched up against TUF 4's Din Thomas as the headline bout for UFC Fight Night 11 in September of 2007. A staff infection however ruled Fisher out of the bout and instead Fisher faced Frankie Edgar at November's UFC 78. He was outwrestled by Fisher for three rounds and dropped a wide unanimous decision.

Injury again came into play at UFC Fight Night 13, when Fisher had to pull out of a bout with Marcus Aurelio on the undercard. He instead fought Jeremy Stephens at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale and won a unanimous decision.

Scheduled to face TUF 2's Melvin Guillard at UFC 90, an injury forced Guillard out of the bout and Fisher instead faced Shannon Gugerty on the undercard. Fisher submitted Gugerty in the third round with a triangle choke and picked up "Submission of the Night" honors.

Fisher will return to action at UFC 99: The Comeback against the returning Caol Uno on the main card.
