Profile

Rafael dos Anjos (born October 26, 1984) is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist and Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt.

He stands 5 ft. 7 in. tall and fights in the lightweight division (155 lbs.) for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

Rafael dos Anjos made his professional mixed martial arts debut against Adriano Abu in Brazil on September 25, 2004. Anjos lost to Abu via split decision after three rounds.

Dos Anjos picked up his first professional victory just two weeks later as he scored his own decision victory over Brazilian, Joao Paulo.

A TKO victory over Felipe Arinelli was followed by another split decision loss, this time to Jorge Brito in June of 2005.

With a 2-2 professional record, dos Anjos then embarked on a nine fight win streak with six of the victories coming by way of submission. Included in that nine fight win streak was a victory in a one night four man tournament in Brazilian based XFC promotion and a split decision victory over respected Japanese fighter, Takafumi Otsuka.

UFC Career

On the back of his win streak and 11-2 professional record, dos Anjos was picked up by the UFC and slated to face Jeremy Stephens on the undercard of UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar.

Dos Anjos controlled the first two rounds with superior grappling, but in the third round he was met with a vicious right uppercut from Stephens that left in limp against the side of the cage. The fight was ruled as a KO victory for Stephens at :39 of round 3 and marked dos Anjos' third professional defeat.

The Brazilian will return to UFC action at UFC Fight Night 18 when he fights Xtreme Couture lightweight, Tyson Griffin on the main card.
