Profile

Per Eklund is a Swedish professional mixed martial artist.

He stands 5 ft. 10 in. (178 cm) tall and currently fights as a lightweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

Per Eklund made his professional mixed martial arts debut on February 15, 2002 against Ilya Kudryashov as a part of a M-1 MFC event. He defeated Kudryashov via split decision after two rounds.

Eklund spent the majority of his early career fighting in European shows. From 2002 until 2007 he went a respectable 13-2-1 with notable performances being a decision victory over David Baron and a first round TKO defeat to Tatsuya Kawajiri.

UFC Career

Eklund made his UFC debut in Jaunary of 2008 on the undercard of UFC 80: Rapid Fire. He faced off against tough Canadian striker, Sam Stout. Eklund had no answer for Stout's takedown defense and suffered a unanimous decision loss after three rounds.

Eklund was given a chance at redemption after his disappointing debut with the UFC awarding him another fight. He faced off against French fighter, Samy Schiavo at UFC 89 and defeated him via submission (rear naked choke) in round 3.
