TKO
Patrick "The Predator" Cote (born February 29, 1980) is a veteran of Canada's TKO Championship Fighting. He made his debut at the promotion's UCC Proving Ground 8 event on November 3, 2002, needing only 1:18 to defeat his opponent Pascal Gosselin with a Rear Naked Choke. Patrick quickly asserted himself as a force to be reckoned with, ascending the rankings with three straight wins.
Cote, now an established contender, then faced the TKO 205lb champion, Steve Vigneault, knocking him out at 1:08 of the first round. With the belt around his waist, "The Predator" had arrived. Cote's first title defense pit him against Bill Mahood in an affair that lasted a brief 0:21, resulting in another KO win for "The Predator".
Over the course of his career Patrick has returned to TKO competition as well as fighting in King of the Cage Canada, and Maximum Fighting Championships, another Canadian organization. Cote has notable wins over Jason MacDonald, Jason Day and is the reigning TKO Middleweight Champion. Additionally Patrick holds the KotC Canadian title, and the MFC Middleweight belt.
UFC
On October, 22, 2004 the 5-0 TKO 205lb Champion, Cote, made his Octagon debut agreeing to a bout with Tito Ortiz, on only four days notice. The challenge proved too great for "The Predator" and he lost a unanimous decision to Ortiz after suffering through three rounds of brutal ground and pound.
Continuing to find success in his north-of-the-border endeavors, Cote struggled with his early UFC fights. After losing to Ortiz, Patrick marched steadily toward an 0-4 record in the UFC, losing to Joe Doerksen, and then Chris Leben, before being chosen as a cast member for The Ultimate Fighter season four.
The Comeback
TUF's fourth season was dubbed "The Comeback" and exclusively featured UFC veterans. Patrick achieved his first win inside the Octagon while on the show, beating Jorge Rivera, and later Edwin Dewees on his way to a finale showdown with Jiu-Jitsu ace Travis Lutter.
At 2:18 of the contest's first frame Cote found himself forced to tap, caught in a Lutter Armbar.
From the Ashes
Less than three months after being submitted by Lutter, Cote returned to UFC action ina do-or-die match with Scott Smith. Three rounds later Patrick had his hand raised for the first time in non-exhibition UFC competition, winning a unanimous decision.
A pair of Octagon of wins by knockout was to follow, seeing "The Predator" victorious against the likes of Kendall Grove, and Drew McFedries. Cote was then matched with decorated grappler Ricardo Almeida in a number one contender elimination bout. Taking home a split decision win, Cote earned a shot at the UFC Middleweight Championship of the world.
Patrick Cote will face champion Anderson Silva at UFC 90, on October, 25, 2008.
