Profile
Nick Catone (born September 1, 1981) is an American professional mixed martial artist training out of the BJJ Shore Academy in Brick, New Jersey.
He stands 6 ft. (183 cm) tall and fights in the middleweight division (185 lbs.).
Catone currently competes as a middleweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Early Career
Nick Catone made his professional mixed martial arts debut for the Cage Fury Fighting Championships on June 23, 2007. He faced future UFC competitor, John Howard and defeated him via unanimous decision after three rounds.
Catone's next four bouts came for the Ring of Combat promotion as he picked up a rear naked choke submission victory over Dan Whalen which was followed by three successive first round TKO victories.
UFC
Shortly after his last Ring of Combat victory in June, 2008, Catone signed a contract with the UFC and was slated to face TUF 7 winner, Amir Sadollah on the main card of UFC 91. An injury to Sadollah forced the bout to be postponed to UFC Fight Night 17 in February, 2009. Sadollah was injured again in training though and he was replaced by UFC newcomer, Derek Downey. Catone handled Downey pretty easily, forcing him to submit to a keylock in the second round.
Just under two months later, Catone returned to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 18 to face TUF 7 semi-finalist, Tim Credeur. Catone was in trouble every time the fight hit the floor - which it did often - as Credeur tied him up in knots. In the second round Credeur sunk in a deep guillotine choke that forced Catone to tap.
At UFC 102, Catone will get back into action when he faces top shelf amateur wrestler, Mark Munoz on the show's undercard.
