Early Career and WEC

Mike "Quick" Swick (born June 19, 1979) began his professional mixed martial arts career with a first round submission win over Victor Bell on November 7, 1998. First defeating Victor Bell with a Rear Naked Choke, then beating James Whitifield by TKO. Three months later Mike made his first appearance in World Extreme CageFighting winning a decision over James Gabert.

Next up for Swick was a KO win over Kengo Ura, picking up a second WEC victory. Another knockout followed, this one a ShootBox win over Butch Bacon. Unfortunately for Swick, the third KO in the sequence was doled out by Chris Leben. Mike had suffered his first loss.

The Ultimate Fighter

The 5-1 Mike Swick was brought onto the first season The Ultimate Fighter (TUF 1) to compete as a Light Heavyweight, even though most of Swick's fights had been at 185lbs. Possibly due to the difference in weight and power, Swick was beaten by finalist Stephan Bonnar, via Triangle Choke.

Swick went on to work for the Ultimate Fighting Championship making his first Octagon appearance at the Ultimate Fighter Finale. It took "Quick" Swick a mere 0:20 to score a knockout against fellow TUF contestant Alex Schoenauer.

In The UFC

Mike Swick continued to live up to featuring a combined total time of only 5:10. Durign that brief period Swick managed a TKO of Gideon Ray, as well as Guillotine Choke (or "Swickotine", if you're nasty) victories over both Steve Vigneault and Joe Riggs.

Mike's next test would come in the form of David Loiseau. The former middleweight contender pushed Swick to his limits, and Mike won a hard-fought decision. Swick would not be so lucky when he faced he was faced with the highly-rankedYushin Okami, who not only took Mike the distance, but also took home the win.

Subsequent to the fight with Okami, Swick dropped down to Welterweight hoping to find greater success at the lighter weight. While Swick has achieved victory since the change, the wins have hardly been stunning. Mike has ground out decisions against Josh Burkman and most recently Marcus Davis. The slow pace of these matches have left many fans lukewarm and many critics asking what happened to "Quick" Mike Swick.
