Profile

Jonathan "The Road Warrior" Goulet (born July 13, 1979) is a Canadian professional mixed martial artist and was a Brazilian jiu jitsu blue belt under Wagnney Fabiano.

He stands 6 ft. (183 cm) tall and fights in the welterweight division (170 lbs.).

Goulet currently competes as a welterweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

Jonathan Goulet made his professional mixed martial arts debut on December 16, 2001 for the Canadian UCC promotion. He was defeated in his debut by James Gabert as he was stopped with punches in 4:07 of round 1.

Goulet picked up his first professional victory a little over a month later as he submitted Mark Colangelo with an armbar in the first round.

After submitting his next opponent, Goulet was defeated in the two following bouts as he was knocked out by Tony Fryklund and stopped by Yan Pellerin.

Goulet rounded out 2002 with two first round victories that featured none of the bouts making it out of the first minute.

The start of 2003 yielded mixed results for Goulet as he went 1-2 by the end of June. He finished off 2003 with an impressive unanimous decision win over the talented Jeff Joslin in his debut for Canada's premiere MMA organization, TKO.

By August of 2005, Goulet had fought seven more times for TKO winning all seven bouts. Amongst those bouts were wins over Travis Galbraith (rear naked choke), John Alessio (decision), and Tony Fryklund (cut).

UFC

With a record of 13-5 and an eight fight win streak, Goulet signed to fight with the UFC. He made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 2 against Jay Hieron. In what has been labelled as the bloodiest fight in UFC history, Goulet defeated Hieron in the third round via cut stoppage.

Goulet headed back to TKO following the victory and scored his ninth consecutive win in the organization as he submitted Shonie Carter with a bulldog choke in 3:05 of round 1.

Goulet's ten fight win streak was snapped at UFC Fight Night 3 however though as he faced former K-1 kickboxer, Duane Ludwig. Goulet waded in while leaving himself open and Ludwig finished him off in just over five seconds (however it would later be reported as 11 seconds).

At UFC Fight Night 5, Goulet got back in the win column as he scored a majority decision victory over TUF 2's Luke Cummo.

Goulet faced a stint outside of the UFC after he submitted to strikes against TUF 1's Josh Koscheck at UFC Fight Night 6 in August of 2006.

Fighting to get back into the UFC in 2007, Goulet started the year with a No Contest against Thomas Schulte and knockout victories in the TKO organization.

On June 23, he was defeated by Jason Day via armbar submission in the second round. He responded to that loss by stopping Cory MacDonald at a King of the Cage event.

After the MacDonald bout Goulet made a point of calling out Mike Swick, who was considering a drop in weight to the UFC's welterweight division. Swick took the bait and Goulet was brought back into the UFC as his opponent for UFC Fight Night 11. However, Swick had to pull out of the bout due to injury and Dustin Hazelett was brought in on short notice as Goulet's opponent with the bout being relegated to the undercard. Goulet's UFC return did not go so well as he was submitted by Hazelett with an armbar in just 1:14 of round 1.

Two months later, Goulet found himself back on the smaller circuit as he stopped Dan Chambers with punches in the first round at an XMMA event.

Goulet was called up as a replacement for TUF 6's Blake Bowman on The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale as he faced another of the show's contestants in Paul Georgieff. Goulet put the inexperienced and inferior Georgieff to sleep with a rear naked choke 4:42 into round 1.

With the win, Goulet was back in the UFC fold and was signed to fight Kuniyoshi Hironaka on the undercard of UFC 83 in Goulet's home country of Canada. Goulet got dropped by Hironaka in the first round but bounced back to knock Hironaka down and then out in the second. The win earned both Hironaka and Goulet "Fight of the Night" honors and a $75,000 bonus cheque.

At UFC: Fight for the Troops in December of 2008, Goulet finally faced off against Mike Swick. Goulet was blitzed by Swick as his suspect chin was again brought into question when he was knocked out in just 33 seconds of round 1.

Goulet will return to the Octagon in July of 2009 when he faces Dong Hyun Kim on the undercard of UFC 100.
