Profile

Hong Man "Techno Goliath" Choi (born October 30, 1980) is a Korean professional mixed martial artist and professional kickboxer.

He stands 7 ft. 2 in. (218 cm) tall and fights at approximately 327 lbs..

Choi is a K-1 veteran and currently fights for DREAM.

Kickboxing Career

Choi started his professional fighting career as a K-1 kickboxer on March 19, 2005. He is a two-time K-1 World Grand Prix quarter finalist having defeated notable MMA fighters, Akebono, Bob Sapp, Semmy Schilt and Gary Goodridge.

He is currently 12-6 in his kickboxing career with seven victories by way of knockout.

K-1 and DREAM

Hong Man Choi made his professional mixed martial arts debut at K-1 Premium Dynamite!! 2006 on December 31, 2006 against Japanese TV personality, Bobby Ologun. Choi's size advantage made the bout a complete mismatch with Choi demolishing Ologun in 16 seconds.

On June 2, 2007, Choi was matched up against former professional wrestler, MMA debutant and future UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar at a K-1/EliteXC co-promotion. The California State Athletic Commission, which was overseeing the bout, refused to sanction Choi just 10 days out from the fight reportedly due to a benign tumor on his pituitary gland.

Six months later, Choi returned to Japan to fight former PRIDE heavyweight champion, Fedor Emelianenko at Yarennoka!. The event was put together by FEG and DSE as a farewell to PRIDE fans. Choi, as almost always the case, came in with a massive size advantage over Fedor and used that advantage to avoid being taken down. Choi would simply fall on top of Fedor when the Russian attempted to get the fight to the ground. Whilst on top, Choi attempted to wail away with punches which just saw him caught in an armbar by the nimble Fedor. He avoided the submission the first time, but not the second as he submitted at the 1:58 mark of round 1.

A year later Choi returned to MMA competition against Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic at K-1: Dynamite!! Power of Courage 2008. Choi was leg kicked repeatedly by Cro Cop en route to a TKO loss at 6:32 of round 1.

In May of 2009, Choi entered DREAM's Super Hulk Tournament. In the first round - held at DREAM 9 - Choi faced disgraced former baseball player, Jose Canseco. Canseco was making his professional mixed martial arts debut. The fight was over quickly as Canseco looked to move in and out throwing single strikes but after his knee gave out he was monstered on the ground by Choi.
