Profile

Chris "The Professor" Wilson (born June 7, 1977) is an American professional mixed martial artist training out Team Quest.

He stands 6 ft. 1 in. (185 cm) tall and fights in the welterweight division (170 lbs.).

Wilson is an IFL veteran and currently competes as a welterweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career and IFL

Chris Wilson made his professional mixed martial arts debut on December 13, 2003 for the Full Contact Fighting Federation. He made his debut a quick one as he knocked out his opponent, Elder Pyatt with one punch in just 10 seconds.

After another victory and No Contest, Wilson suffered his first professional defeat when he was on the losing end of a unanimous decision to Eddy Ellis at SportFight 4.

Wilson rebounded from the loss by posting six consecutive victories, which included knockout victories over future TUF 5 contestant, Brandon Melendez and Pat Healy.

On June 24, 2006, Wilson's win streak came to an end when he was submitted by Nick Thompson with a kimura in the second round of an Absolute Fighting Championships event.

After submitting UFC veteran, LaVerne Clark with a triangle choke just over a month later, Wilson made his IFL debut and was defeated by Brad Blackburn via unanimous decision.

Wilson bounced back from the loss to pick up his first IFL victory in his next fight when he scored a unanimous decision win over UFC veteran, Jay Hieron. That win was followed by his final bout for the IFL where he picked up a TKO victory over Rory Markham in the first round.

Wilson went on to fight twice in 2007 as he scored victories over Ray Steinbeiss and Derrick Noble to push his record to a respectable 14-5 (1 NC).

UFC

In early 2008, Wilson was called up on short notice to replace Akihiro Gono in a bout against Jon Fitch on the main card of UFC 82. Wilson made it a fight as he troubled Fitch in the first round with his superior stand-up and takedown defense. Fitch fought through though and took the last two rounds comfortably to earn himself a unanimous decision victory.

Five months later, Wilson was back in UFC action as he faced American Top Team's Steve Bruno at UFC 87. Wilson beat up Bruno for three rounds with crisp striking en route to a unanimous decision victory.

At UFC 94, Wilson was matched up against UFC newcomer, John Howard. In a bout that earned both fighters, "Fight of the Night" honors, the two traded heavily on the feet and positions on the ground. The fight went to the judges and Howard was announced the split decision victor.

Wilson looked to rebound against Josh Koscheck on the main card of UFC 98 in May of 2009, but an injury to Koscheck forced a replacement in the form of former WEC title challenger, Brock Larson. Wilson accepted the change but after an incident with the Athletic Commission just a day before the event, he was pulled from the card.
