Profile

Andre Galvao is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist and Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt under Fernando Augusto.

He stands 5 ft. 9 in. (177 cm) tall and fights in the welterweight division (170 lbs.).

Galvao was a third place finisher in the 2007 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships in the open weight and under 77 kg class. He currently fights as one of the welterweight competitors in DREAM's 2009 Welterweight Grand Prix.

Early Career

Andre Galvao made his professional mixed martial arts debut against tough veteran Jeremiah Metcalf at Fighting 4 Kidz on August 30, 2008. After a tough first round, Galvao finally was able to use his superior grappling skills in the second round and submitted Metcalf with an armbar at the 2:05 mark.

Galvao returned to competition just under four months later where he again won by armbar, this time over Mikey Gomez at an FSC event.

DREAM

It was announced in early 2009, that Andre Galvao would compete as one of 8 welterweight competitors in DREAM's 2009 Welterweight Grand Prix. In the first round of the tournament, held on April 5 at DREAM 8, Galvao faced UFC and WEC veteran, John Alessio. After 7 minutes of action, Galvao submitted Alessio with an armbar to move into the semi finals.
