Pre-Event Notes

Affliction: Day of Reckoning was originally slated to take place on October 11, 2008 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. However due to Fedor Emelianenko pulling out of the main event due to a hand injury and lack of ticket sales the event was "post-poned" until January 24th, 2009.

Shortly after the "post-ponement" of the original "Day of Reckoning", Affliction announced a partnership with Golden Boy Promotions. However, the extent of the partnership remains unclear after Golden Boy Promotions scheduled a boxing card headlined by Shane Mosley and Antonio Margorito on the same day as the rescheduled Affliction event.

Matt Lindland was originally rumored to face off against Renato Sobral in a catchweight bout of either 190 lbs. or 195 lbs. The idea was scrapped however and both fighters got new opponents.

Josh Barnett was originally rumored to face Brett Rogers but that rumor was dispelled once Gilbert Yvel was announced as his opponent.
