Background
WEC 40: Torres vs. Mizugaki is a 9-bout fight card that is set to take place on April 5, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois, at the UIC Pavilion.
The card will air live on the Versus Network at 9pm ET and will feature a Bantamweight Championship bout between champion, Miguel Torres and Shooto veteran, Takeya Mizugaki as its main event.
A bantamweight bout between former featherweight contender, Jeff Curran and DREAM veteran, Joseph Benavidez will serve as a co-main event.

Pre-Event Notes
Bantamweight Champion, Miguel Torres was originally meant to face Brian Bowles in the main event. A back injury forced Bowles out however and he was replaced with debuting, Takeya Mizugaki.
Featherweight, Mike Budnik was a late replacement for Cole Province in the fight against Rafael Dias.
Bart Palaszewski stepped in on short notice to replace Anthony Pettis in his bout against Anthony Njokuani.
Jeff Curran's fight against Joseph Benavidez will mark his debut in the 135 lbs. division.
