Background

UFC Fight Night 9 (aka Ultimate Fight Night 9 and UFC Fight Night: Stevenson vs. Guillard) was a 9-bout fight card held on April 5, 2007 at the Palms Casino Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The card aired lived on SpikeTV and was headlined by a lightweight bout between TUF 2 welterweight winner, Joe Stevenson and fellow TUF 2 welterweight contestant, Melvin Guillard.

Frank Mir was originally meant to face Antoni Hardonk but injury forced him out and Justin McCully was brought in as a replacement.

Kurt Pellegrino was first matched up against UFC newcomer, Wander Braga but Braga's removal saw Nate Mohr fill in his stead.

Forrest Petz was a late-notice replacement for Jeff Joslin.

Rich Clementi filled in on short notice for TUF 2's Anthony Torres against Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, Roan Carneiro.

Stevenson dropped Guillard with a jab early and then almost immediately transitioned to the fight ending choke.
