Pre-Event Notes

In lead up to the fight, Quinton Jackson and Forrest Griffin were rival coached on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs. Team Forrest.

Original reports were that Frank Mir would take on Justin McCully instead of Gabriel Gonzaga. However, most likely due to the UFC failing to come to terms with Randy Couture, Mir was pulled and placed in an interim title fight against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
