Pre-Event Notes

UFC 83 was the first event to be held in Canada in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

This was the first time since UFC 44 that a UFC champion had faced an interim UFC champion for the undisputed title.

Kenny Florian replaced UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan for the night as he called the shots alone with Goldberg for the first in his career.

Patrick Cote was originally meant to appear on the card against either Alan Belcher or Johnny Rees. Cote ended up pulling out of any fight on that card because of injury and instead Belcher faced off against another Canadian in Jason Day.
