Background

UFC 70: Nations Collide was a 10-bout fight card that was held on April 21, 2007 at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England.

The card aired on tape delay on Spike TV and was headlined by a heavyweight bout between 2006 PRIDE Open Weight Tournament winner, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, Gabriel Gonzaga.

A heavyweight bout between Andrei Arlovski and Fabricio Werdum as well as a light heavyweight bout between TUF 3 winner, Michael Bisping and Elvis Sinosic were featured as co-main events.

This was the first UFC card to be held in Britain since UFC 38 back in July of 2002.

TUF 1 winner Forrest Griffin was originally slated to face Lyoto Machida but a staff infection forced his removal and after a long search, David Heath was announced as his replacement.

Gonzaga scored with a takedown early and dealt some damage to Mirko with some nice elbows from inside Cro Cop's guard. The fight was returned to the feet by the referee and soon after Gonzaga fired a kick which Mirko blocked low but the kick went high collecting him upside the head and knocking him cold.
