Pre-Event Notes

The main event was a rematch of a bout from UFC 40 that Liddell won via KO (head kick) in the first round. That was Sobral's last victory as he embarked on a 10-fight win streak to get himself another shot at Liddell and the his first at the UFC light heavyweight championship.

This was the first rematch of TUF finalists (Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar) in the history of the show.

Josh Neer was originally scheduled to face Thiago Alves but an illness suffered by Alves caused his removal and he was replaced by Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, Nick Diaz.

Jamie Varner was to face Spencer Fisher but Fisher was replaced by WEC lightweight champion, Hermes Franca after Fisher was injured.
