The card aired live on pay-per-view and was headlined by a middleweight championship bout between champion, Rich Franklin and TUF 1 contestant, Nate Quarry.

A welterweight bout - originally scheduled as a championship bout - between welterweight champion, Matt Hughes and Joe Riggs served as a co-main event.

Pre-Event Notes

Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes headline the card in seperate bouts after having served as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 2.

Joe Riggs was a replacement for Karo Parisyan in his title match against Matt Hughes. Riggs failed to make weight however, - weighing in at 171 lbs. - and for the first time in UFC history a championship bout was changed to a non-title affair because of this.

Nate Quarry is the first TUF contestant to earn a UFC title shot.

Matt Vasgersian takes over commentating duties for Mike Goldberg for the event due to Goldberg covering College Football on Fox Sports Net that same night.
