The card aired live on pay-per-view and was headlined by a heavyweight championship bout between champion, Andrei Arlovski and "The Headhunter", Paul Buentello.

Pre-Event Notes

UFC management decided to make the Andrei Arlovski vs. Paul Buentello bout for the heavyweight championship as opposed to the interim heavyweight championship that Arlovski possessed due to champion, Frank Mir's inability to defend the title since suffering a motorcycle accident after winning the belt against Tim Sylvia at UFC 48.

Arlovski was to defend his interim belt against Buentello at UFC 53, but an injury to Buentello nixed the bout.

Forrest Griffin was to face Britain's Ian Freeman, but an injury to Freeman saw his replacement in Elvis Sinosic who was making his first UFC appearance since losing to Renato Sobral at UFC 38.

Sean Gannon was brought into the UFC after infamously taking out YouTube street fighting sensation, Kimbo Slice.

Ginger, Craig Hummer replaced Mike Goldberg in commentating for this event.
