Background
UFC 103: Franklin vs. Belfort is a 13-bout fight card that is set to take place on September 19, 2009 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
The card will air live on Pay-Per-View and will feature a 195 lbs. Catchweight bout between former UFC Middleweight Champion, Rich Franklin and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Vitor Belfort.
A heavyweight bout between Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Junior Dos Santos as well as No.1 contender welterweight bout between Martin Kampmann and Mike Swick will serve as co-main events.

Pre-Event Notes
Rich Franklin was originally to take on Dan Henderson at 205 lbs. in the main event but after poor reaction from fans was pulled in favor of the recently re-aquired Vitor Belfort.
Junior Dos Santos was to face Justin McCully at UFC 101 but when Mirko Filipovic was brought back, he was upped from the undercard at that event to the main card of this one.
Efrain Escudero vs. Cole Miller will headline the SpikeTV broadcast preceeding the pay-per-view. This will be the first time Spike has aired the undercard of a UFC event live.
Rafaello Oliveira was to face Dan Lauzon but a back injury forced Lauzon out of the bout. UFC newcomer, Nik Lentz, filled in as a replacement.
Jim Miller was to face Thiago Tavares but an injury to Tavares saw his replacement in UFC newcomer, Steve Lopez.
Matt Wiman was Rafael dos Anjos's original opponent but after an injury was replaced by Rob Emerson. Emerson was supposed to fight at UFC 101 but pulled out due to a cut.
Just under two weeks out from the bout, Mike Swick suffered a concussion in training and had to pull out. Paul Daley was promoted from the undercard as his replacement, with Rick Story filling in for him against newcomer, Brian Foster.

After two and a half minutes of circling, Belfort landed some punches that clipped Franklin behind the ear which dropped him to his knees. Some follow up hammer fists had Franklin face first on the mat in the turtle position eating undefended blows until the fight was stopped.
