Vera was rumored to have been offered a fight on July 19th against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, Lyoto Machida and Reese Andy. Vera said yes to all but Machida, stating that he'd need a full training camp in order to face Machida. Henderson, Sokoudjou and Silva turned down the fight and Vera was finally matched up against Andy.
Jesse Taylor was set to make his UFC debut after having been kicked out of TUF 7 because of a drunken rampage in celebration for leaving the house and being in the finals.
