Profile
Tomasz "Gorilla" Drwal (born January 22, 1982) is a Polish professional mixed martial artist.
He stands 6 ft. 1 in. (185 cm) tall and fights in the light heavyweight division (205 lbs.).
Drwal currently competes as a light heavyweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Early Career
Tomasz Drwal made his professional mixed martial arts debut at a Colosseum event held in Poland on March 21, 2004. He faced and defeated his opponent, Daniel Les via TKO in the first round.
A week later, Drwal suffered his first professional defeat when he was submitted by Ulf Fritzmann at a Fight Club Berlin event.
Drwal responded to the loss by claiming victory in a one night, eight man tournament held by the Colosseum promotion in September of 2004.
He followed that success up with an avenging win over Fritzmann as he made the German submit to strikes in the first round.
Drwal kicked off 2005 with a submission win over Michael Knaap. He followed that up with six more victories in 2005 with all of the victories coming by either TKO or submission in the first round.
After taking 2006 off, Drwal stopped Valdas Pocevicius and submitted Andre Fyeet in early 2007 to earn himself a contract with the UFC.
UFC
Drwal made his UFC debut at UFC 75 against Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, Thiago Silva on the show's undercard. The two fighters traded furiously in the first round but the action slowed to a crawl by the end of the first as both fighters began to gas. The second round was a sloppy affair with Silva finally unleashing a few solid strikes in a row that crumpled Drwal and forced the stoppage.
Injury troubles stopped Drwal from returning to the Octagon for over 15 months. He finally returned to action at UFC 93 in Ireland in January, 2009. He faced UFC newcomer, Ivan Serati and knocked him cold with punches 2:02 into the first round.
Drwal will return to the UFC action on the undercard of The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale where he faces IFL veteran, Mike Ciesnolevicz.
