Kennedy picked up his first professional win under three months later as he submitted Jody Burke with a forearm choke in 44 seconds.

In the semis Kennedy squared off against Jason "Mayhem" Miller and scored a unanimous decision after three rounds. This pushed him into the final where he claimed the title with a second round TKO over Cruz Chacon.

Due to army committments, Kennedy did not fight again until September, 2006 where he scored a first round KO over Hector Urbina.

IFL

In February, 2007, Kennedy made his debut for the International Fight League. He faced future TUF 7 contestant, Dante Rivera and forced him to submit to punches midway through the second round.

Three months later at an IFL event held in Chicago, Kennedy submitted Miletich trained, Ryan McGivern with a guillotine choke in the second round.

Kennedy was signed to face Jason Miller in a rematch four years in the making in December as part of HDNet Fights: Reckless Abandon. Kennedy took the first round and almost submitted Miller with a rear naked choke, however Miller came good in the final two rounds to clinch a 29-28 unanimous decision victory.

Two weeks later, Kennedy returned to the IFL to face Elias Rivera. Kennedy knocked Rivera cold with punches in 2:00.

Strikeforce

After having been sidelined from MMA in 2008 due to further army committments, Kennedy will return to competition on June 19, 2009 when he faces Nick Thompson on Strikeforce's ShoMMA 2.
