Profile
Tim "The Barbarian" Boetsch (born January 28, 1981) is an American professional mixed martial artist.
He stands 5 ft. 11 in. (180cm) and fights in the light heavyweight division (205 lbs.).
He is a veteran of the IFL and currently fights as a light heavyweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Early Career
Tim Boetsch made his professional mixed martial arts debut against Demian Decorah at Madtown Throwdown 9 on October 14, 2006. In a tough first fight, Boetsch eventually made Decorah tap to strikes in third round.
Just over a month later, Boetsch was back in action at a Reality Fighting event where he scored a first round TKO over Hazem Ibrahim. The two would face off again just under four months later at an Extreme Challenge event where the result would only be slightly different as this time it went shorter and Ibrahim tapped to strikes.
He spread his next fight between the Reality Fighting and Extreme Challenge organizations where he picked up both companys light heavyweight titles with stoppage victories.
In August of 2007, Boetsch was called up on three days notice to fill in for an injured fighter against former UFC light heavyweight title challenger, Vladimir Matyushenko. Boetsch fought hard, but his lack of conditioning and Matyushenko's wrestling ability won out as Boetsch dropped a unanimous decision and the first fight of his professional career.
UFC
Given a little bit more notice for his next fight, Boetsch was called up on 10 days notice to replace Tomasz Drwal in a bout against David Heath at UFC 81. Boetsch accepted the fight and left a lasting impression with the fans as his unorthodox striking style frustrated and hurt Heath before latching onto Heath's head and throwing him to the ground in a move later dubbed as "red neck judo". Shortly thereafter, the referee called the fight and awarded Boetsch the TKO victory.
Filling in as another replacement for his next bout, Boestch replaced TUF 1 runner up Stephan Bonnar against TUF 3 competitor, Matt Hamill at UFC Fight Night 13. The bout was fought in higher altitude than normal and Boetsch's conditioning did not stand up to Hamill's strength. A gassed Boestch was stopped a minute and a bit into round two following a takedown and some ground and pound from Hamill.
At UFC 88, Boetsch was finally the first choice opponent for a fight as he faced Mike Patt on the shows undercard. Boetsch disposed of Patt quickly via TKO in the first round.
Boetsch will next take on Jason Brilz at UFC 96: Jackson vs. Jardine.
