Background

The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale was a 9-bout fight card that was held on June 23, 2007 at Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The card aired live on Spike TV at 9pm ET/PT and decided the winner of TUF 5's 16 man lightweight tournament.

A lightweight match-up between TUF 5 coaches, BJ Penn and Jens Pulver served as the main event of the evening.

Main Card

The BJ Penn and Jens Pulver fight was the first fight between opposing coaches to be televised at a TUF finale.

Leonard Garcia was a late replacement for TUF 5 castmember, Corey Hill, who had to pull out due to injury.

A bout between expelled TUF 5 castmembers, Noah Thomas and Marlon Sims was rumored to take place on the card but the bout was nixed by UFC officials.

Lightweight Bout: Matt Wiman defs. Brian Geraghty via TKO (strikes) at 2:09 of round 1.
Lightweight Bout: Leonard Garcia defs. Allen Berube via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:22 of round 1.
Lightweight Bout: Rob Emerson and Gray Maynard fought to a second round no contest after Maynard KO'd himself while slamming Emerson which in the process forced Emerson to submit to an aggravated rib injury.
Lightweight Bout: Cole Miller defs. Andy Wang via KO (head kick and punches) at 1:10 of round 1.
Lightweight Bout: Joe Lauzon defs. Brandon Melendez via submission (triangle choke) at 2:09 of round 2.

Main Card

Lightweight Bout: Roger Huerta defs. Doug Evans via TKO (strikes) at 3:30 of round 2.
Middleweight Bout: Thales Leites defs. Floyd Sword via submission (arm triangle choke) at 3:50 of round 1.
TUF 5 Lightweight Final: Nate Diaz defs. Manny Gamburyan via submission (injury) at :20 of round 2.
