Choosing Teams

The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback was a completely different format to the previous three seasons. The cast was made up of UFC veterans who had underachieved in their UFC careers and were now given the oppurtunity to gain a UFC title shot if they won the 8 man tournament in their weight class.

As a result of the contestants not being "up and comers" as in the previous seasons, the way teams were chosen was given an overhaul. TUF 4 featured no assigned coaches and thus teams were decided by each contestant picking one of two colored jerseys from a bin.

Picking the Fights

The way fights were picked stayed the same way from The Ultimate Fighter Season 3 a coin toss at the team selections decided which team gained control over the first match-up. From there control of matchmaking was granted to the team that won the last fight.

Tournament Structure

TUF 4 featured the same tournament structure as TUF 3 with an 8 man tournament in both weight classes where each fighter had to fight once before making it to the semi finals.

Another difference featured in TUF 4 from other sesasons was that eliminated fighters would stay living in the house in an effort to train the remaining contestants and be available if a fighter had to drop out.
