Tamdan "The Barn Cat" McCrory (born November 5, 1986) is an American professional mixed martial artist fighting out of Team CNY MMA.
He stands 6 ft. 4 in. tall and fights in the welterweight division for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Early Career
Tamdan McCrory made his professional mixed martial arts debut at the awkwardly titled, World Fighting League 7: Judgment Night 2 against John Jenner on June 3, 2006. He defeated Jenner via TKO at 1:19 of round 1.
Under two weeks later, McCrory was back in action, this time scoring a TKO over Bobby Diaz in the second round.
In August of 2006, McCrory fought twice, scoring two more TKO victories with the victims this time being Brendan Hoxie and Joe Manzello.
McCrory rounded out 2006 with two more fights and two more wins, to kick his career off to an impressive 6-0 with six finishes.
"The Barn Cat" began 2007 with a TKO over Anthony D'Angelo in the first round. A little under three months later, McCrory moved to 8-0 with a rear naked choke submission victory over Nuri Shakir.
UFC Career
With an impressive undefeated start to his career, McCrory earned himself a call up to the UFC. He made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 10 on June 12, 2007 against TUF 4 veteran, Pete Spratt.
Spratt dominated the opening round and a half with takedowns and ground and pound from side control and McCrory's back. In the second round, Spratt looked on the verge of a stoppage victory however McCrory was able to scramble back to guard. Spratt then got lazy and dove back in McCrory's guard and waiting triangle choke. The tap came shortly after giving McCrory his first UFC win.
McCrory returned to the Octagon at UFC 78 in November. He faced PRIDE veteran and Japanese showman, Akihiro Gono. Gono's perplexing style frustrated McCrory for the majority of the fight. In the second round, Gono caught McCrory in a nasty armbar that gave McCrory no other choice but to tap and concede the first loss of his professional career.
In August of 2008, McCrory returned to competition and got back in the win column with a hard fought decision win over TUF 2's Luke Cummo at UFC 87. McCrory outmuscled Cummo for the entirety of the bout and nearly finished the Matt Serra student with a number of submission attempts.
At UFC 91, McCrory faced Team Jorge Gurgel's Dustin Hazelett. In a frantic first few minutes, both fighters exchanged wildly with the fight eventually ending up on the mat with McCrory in top position. Hazelett's sublime submission came quickly into play as he began tying McCrory up in knots. Just under four minutes in, Hazelett caught McCrory in an omoplata position which he then transitioned into a reverse armbar that had McCrory tapping quickly.
At UFC 96 against UFC newcomer, Ryan Madigan, McCrory quickly took the fight to the ground where it would stay for the entire fight. After landing in the guard of Madigan, McCrory used strikes to pass to the mount position. Once there Madigan is forced to tap due to blows just as Yves Lavigne steps in to stop the fight. The bout is officially ruled a TKO.
