Shannon Gugerty (born X x, 1982) is an American professional mixed martial artist and brown belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu.

He stands 5 ft. 10 in. (177 cm) tall and fights in the lightweight division (155 lbs.).

Gugerty currently competes as a lightweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

Shannon Gugerty made his professional mixed martial arts debut at Total Combat 4 on July 25, 2004 against future WEC competitor, Cub Swanson. Gugerty defeated Swanson via rear naked choke to kick start his professional career.

Gugerty rolled off two more submission victories before suffering back to back defeats to Shawn Bias (unanimous decision) and Cub Swanson (TKO).

Continuing to fight solely in the Total Combat organization, Gugerty rolled off three straight victories to get his career back on track. With a 6-2 record, Gugerty had his first fight outside of the Total Combat organization on June 23, 2007 when he submitted Paris Ruiz with a rear naked choke at a COF event.

Gugerty completed 2007 with a TKO victory over Lucas Factor once again under the Total Combat banner. He began 2008 with victories in March and April to improve his record to 10-2.

UFC

Gugerty was called up on short notice midway through 2008 to make his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19, 2008. He faced fellow UFC newcomer, Dale Hartt on the show's undercard and submitted Hartt with a rear naked choke in the first round.

At UFC 90, Gugerty again fought on shorter than usual notice as he replaced Melvin Guillard in a fight against Spencer Fisher. Gugerty hung tough but was ultimately submitted in the third round with a triangle choke.

Initially rumored to return at UFC 95 against future TUF 9 competitor, Jeff Lawson, Gugerty will instead face off against Matt Grice on the undercard of UFC 100.
