Background

Sengoku: Seventh Battle was the eighth installment of Japanese promotion's, World Victory Road's "Sengoku" series and a 10 bout fight card.

The card took place in the Yoyogi National Stadium Second Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan on March 20, 2009 and featured a light heavyweight bout between rising star, Muhammed Lawal and light heavyweight King of Pancrase, Ryo Kawamura.

The event also marked the first 8 fights in Sengoku's 2009 Featherweight Grand Prix.

Pre-Event Notes

Shooto Champion, Takeshi Inoue was originally considered as a participant in the Grand Prix but had to withdraw from contention due to Shooto commitments.

UFC and PRIDE veteran, Dokonjonosuke Mishima was also in line for a spot but a knee injury stopped him from competing.

A qualifying bout between Michihiro Omigawa and Shintaro Ishiwatari ended in a draw so as a result both fighters earned spots in the Grand Prix.
