Profile
Sam "The Alaskan Assassin" Hoger (born June 28, 1980) is an American professional mixed martial artist who trains out of the Miletich Fighting Systems in Bettendorf, Iowa.
He stands 6 ft 2in (188cm) and commonly weighs approximately 205lbs (84kg).
He is a veteran from The Ultimate Fighter Season 1 with his last fight taking place in the World Championship Fighting organisation in September, 2008.
The Ultimate Fighter
Sam Hoger began his professional mixed martial arts career on June 21, 2003 for the Art of War promotion. He defeated Matt Freeland via KO (kick) in the first round.
He went undefeated in his next three fights, scoring first round submission victories over Josh Hendricks, Adam Maciejewski, and Chris Herring before receiving the oppurtunity to fight as a light heavyweight contestant on The Ultimate Fighter Season 1.
After being generally disliked by almost every other competitor on TUF 1 for his perceived disloyalty and theft of housemates' gear, Hoger made it to the light heavyweight semi-finals.
He was defeated by eventual show winner, Forrest Griffin at 1.05 of round two by TKO.
At The Ultimate Fighter 1 Finale, Hoger faced off against Bobby Southworth. This fight was considered a grudge match due to the animosity levelled at Hoger by Southworth in house for the majority of the season. Hoger surprised many by upsetting Southworth via unanimous decision.
UFC Career
After defeating Southworth, Hoger had four more fights inside the UFC Octagon. The first of which, came at the inaugural UFC Fight Night where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to TUF 1 runner-up, Stephan Bonnar.
A little over three months later, at UFC 56, Hoger faced off against Jeff Newton. Hoger secured his second UFC victory with a rear naked choke submission over Newtown midway through the second round.
Hoger returned at UFC Fight Night 4 against, TUF 2 winner, Rashad Evans. Hoger dropped a razor thin split decision to Evans to level his UFC record at 2-2.
In Hoger's final UFC fight, he lost a unanimous decision to the karate stylings of Lyoto Machida at UFC 67.
Post-UFC Career
Two months after his decision loss to Machida, Hoger faced off against Vernon White in the IFL. Hoger was submitted by White via rear naked choke, 3.25 into the second round.
Hoger took an extended break from MMA competition after the loss to White. His next fight came almost 18th months later, against Jason Dolloff. Hoger moved up a weight class to heavyweight and scored a KO victory over Dolloff at just 17 seconds of round 1.
