Profile
Mike "The Master of Disaster" Massenzio (born November 1, 1982) is an American professional mixed martial artist and former 2001 high school national champion wrestler who holds a blue belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu under Edson Carvalho.
He stands 6 ft. 2 in. tall and fights in the middleweight division.
He is an IFL veteran and currently fights as a middleweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Early MMA Career
Mike Massenzio made his professional mixed martial arts debut at Reality Fighting 8 on April 2, 2005. He defeated his opponent, Lionel Cortez via keylock submission 2.05 into round 1.
Massenzio suffered his first loss in his next bout when he faced Jay Coleman four months later at Reality Fighting 9. Coleman defeated Massenzio via TKO .17 into round 2.
"The Master of Diaster's" next four fights were all under the Reality Fighting banner. After defeating Drew Puzon and Bill Scott, Massenzio faced off against future UFC competitor, Dan Miller in a No.1 contender's match for the organization's middleweight title. After three closely fought rounds, Massenzio was awarded the split decision victory.
As promised, Massenzio's next bout was for the Reality Fighting middleweight championship. He faced future TUF 7 contestant, Dante Rivera for the strap who he defeated via unanimous decision after three rounds.
Massenzio left the Reality Fighting organization following the Rivera victory and hung around on some smaller shows, going undefeated and picking up another middleweight title in the Ring of Combat organization.
With a 10-1 record, Massenzio got his biggest call up to date when the IFL came calling. In the IFL's last ever show, Massenzio faced Danillo Villefort and was defeated via kneebar submission just 3.25 into round 1.
UFC Career
Following his disappointing loss in the IFL, Massenzio, somewhat surprisingly, was scooped up by the UFC and placed on UFC Fight Night 15.
He was matched up against Drew McFedries, the dangerous Miletich product with powerful striking and next to no everything else. Massenzio took advantage of McFedries' everthing else as he quickly shot in and put McFedries on the mat before tapping him with a Kimura, 1.28 into round 1.
Massenzio's next bout will take place on the last UFC card for 2008, UFC 92. He will face TUF 7 runner-up, CB Dollaway who defeated Mazzenzio in wrestling at the Junior College Nationals when they were both freshmen.
