Profile

Michihiro "Micci" Omigawa (born December 19, 1975) is a Japanese professional mixed martial artist training out of the Yoshida Dojo.

He stands 5 ft. 6 in. (168 cm) tall and fights in the featherweight division (143 lbs.).

Omigawa is a veteran of the notable PRIDE, DEEP, and UFC organizations. He currently fights as a featherweight (143 lbs.) for World Victory Road's, Sengoku promotion.

Early Career

Michihiro Omigawa made his professional mixed martial arts debut for the PRIDE Fighting Championships as part of their PRIDE: Bushido 7 card, held on May 22, 2005. He faced the vastly more experienced Aaron Riley who knocked Omigawa out with a head kick at the six minute mark of round 1.

Omigawa's next fight came in the Cage Rage organization as he faced American Top Team product, Gesias Cavalcante. Omigawa was knocked out again - this time by punches - at just 49 seconds of round 1.

In February of 2006, Omigawa picked up his first professional victory when he scored a split decision victory over Human Weapon host, Jason Chambers.

Four months later, Omigawa entered the DEEP organization where he dropped his next two fights, losing via unanimous and majority decision to Yoshihiro Tomioka and Kazunori Yokota respectively.

In his next three fights for DEEP, Omigawa evened up his record to 5-5 with a decision and two stoppage wins.

UFC

Midway through 2007, Omigawa was given a call up to fight for the UFC. He made his UFC debut at UFC 76 against TUF 5's Matt Wiman. Omigawa put up a tough fight but was ultimately outworked for the three rounds losing via unanimous decision.

In January of 2008, Omigawa faced off against Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, Thiago Tavares on the main card of UFC Fight Night 12. Omigawa again gave a decent account of himself but it wasn't enough as he was again outworked en route to a unanimous decision loss.

The successive losses marked Omigawa's departure from the UFC.

Sengoku

Seven months after his UFC departure, Omigawa returned to mixed martial arts competition for the DEEP promotion. His record would drop to 5-8 after he was on the losing end of a unanimous decision to Korean prospect, Chan Sung Jung.

At a Shooto event held in January of 2009, Omigawa faced off against Shintaro Ishiwatari in a qualifying bout for the upcoming Sengoku 16-man featherweight (143 lbs.) tournament. The bout ended in a draw after two rounds but due to some fighters having to pull out of participation in the Sengoku tournament both Omigawa and Ishiwatari qualified as entrants into the Grand Prix.

He faced off against IFL and Affliction veteran, LC Davis in the opening round at Sengoku: Seventh Battle. Omigawa was seen only as a testing opponent for Davis who was expected to go far in the tournament. Omigawa surprised many though as he scored multiple takedowns on Davis which stifled his attack. After three rounds, Omigawa was awarded the unanimous decision victory.

Omigawa will face off against Strikeforce veteran and Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, Nam Phan in the quarter finals of the tournament at Sengoku: Eighth Battle on May 2, 2009.
