Matt "The Real One" Grice (born July 29, 1981) is an American professional mixed martial artist and former 4-time Oklahoma State Wrestling Champion.

He stands 5 ft. 8 in. (173 cm) tall and fights in the lightweight division (155 lbs.).

Grice currently competes as a lightweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

Matt Grice made his professional mixed martial arts debut on October 1, 2005 at an Extreme Fighting event. He knocked his opponent, Matt Grey, cold in the first round.

After closing out 2005 with a TKO victory over Rocky Long, Grice fought five times in 2006 winning all five in a variety of different manners.

Grice pushed his record to 8-0 with a submission win over Clint Kerley in January of 2007. Soon after that bout he was signed to a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

UFC

He made his UFC debut in England at UFC 70. He faced a fellow newcomer in British fighter, Terry Etim. Grice dominated the early going of the fight, punishing Etim on the ground. Grice got sloppy towards the end of the round though and was caught in a guillotine choke by Etim forcing him to submit.

Grice looked to rebound from the first loss of his career at UFC 77 when he met Jason Black on the show's undercard. The excellent back and forth bout was judged as a draw by the judges but after realization that an error had been made in the adding of the scorecards, Grice was awarded a split decision victory. The two fighters both earned "Fight of the Night" honors for their performance.

After taking a year off to qualify as a police officer, Grice returned to the UFC at UFC Fight Night 17 against Matt Veach, who was a late replacement for TUF 6's George Sotiropoulos. In another excellent fight, Grice was dropped at the end of the first round and after some light follow up punches the bout was stopped by the referee. Grice protested the stoppage in the cage but to no avail.

Grice will look to stay relevant in the UFC at UFC 100 when he faces Shannon Gugerty.
