John "Doomsday" Howard (born March 1, 1983) is an American professional mixed martial artist training out Wai Kru MMA.

He stands 5 ft. 7 in. (170 cm) tall and fights in the welterweight division (170 lbs.).

Howard currently competes as a welterweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

John Howard made his professional mixed martial arts debut for the Combat Zone promotion on October 2, 2004. He defeated his opponent, Jason Dublin, via decision to notch his first professional victory.

After submitting his next three opponents by the end of 2005, Howard again faced Dublin at Combat Zone 15 in April of 2006. Howard again defeated Dublin - this via arm triangle choke in the second round to improve to 5-0.

Five months later, Howard suffered the first defeat of his career when he was submitted with an armbar by opponent, Alexandre Moreno in the first round.

Howard submitted his next opponent, Josh Roseanne, but would lose three out of his next four bouts as he was defeated by Nick Catone, Woody Weatherby and Dan Miller.

In 2008, Howard began to string some wins together as he knocked out Jose Rodriguez, stopped Nick Calandrino (in his sole IFL appearance) and scored a unanimous decision win over Charlie Brenneman.

UFC

Howard signed to fight with the UFC in late 2008/early 2009 and made his debut at UFC 94 on January 31, 2009. He faced IFL veteran, Chris Wilson and pulled out a razor thin split decision victory after three rounds. The impressive victory earned Howard, as well as Wilson, "Fight of the Night" honors.

Initially scheduled to face Anthony Johnson at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale, Howard reportedly turned down the bout and will instead meet Tamdan McCrory on the undercard of UFC 101.
