Joe Warren (born October 31, 1976) is an American professional mixed martial artist and two-time NCAA champion at Michigan.
He stands 5 ft. 6 in. (168cm) tall and fights in the featherweight division (139 lbs.).
He is one of only five Americans to win a World Greco-Roman Championship (2006) and currently fights for the Japanese based, DREAM promotion.
MMA Debut and DREAM
Joe Warren made his professional mixed martial arts debut in the opening round of the 2009 DREAM featherweight (139 lbs.) tournament. He faced former WEC bantamweight champion, Chase Beebe at DREAM 7 on March 8, 2009. Heading into the bout, no one knew what to expect from Warren but were immediately impressed as he showed a willingness to strike on his feet. His relentless pace and wild striking gave Beebe fits and at the end of the first round, Beebe was unable to continue due to the damage that had been dealt to his face.
At DREAM 9, Warren was given the unenviable task of facing returing Japanese superstar, Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto in the quarter finals of the tournament. Warren was confident before the bout and it showed inside the ring as he used constant pressure on Yamamoto while scoring several takedowns and landing punches inside Kid's guard. On the feet, Yamamoto scored with some hard punches and kicks which kept the fight close. The fight went to the judges and returned as a split decision victory for Warren, giving him one of the biggest upsets in recent MMA history.
