Early Career

Jeff Lawson made his professional mixed martial arts debut for the Cage Warrior Fighting Championships on December 8, 2002. He defeated his opponent, Dave Mace, via armbar submission in 42 seconds.

A little over three months later Lawson picked up his second victory and second win via armbar as he defeated Andy Dicks in the first round.

After taking a few years off from fighting, Lawson returned to action in June of 2006 against Rodrigo Araujo. Lawson suffered his first professional loss when he was stopped on cuts.

He made it consecutive losses two months later as he verbally submitted to punishment from future fellow TUF 9 contestant, Andre Winner.

Lawson bounced back from the losses with two victories to round out 2006.

In 2007, Lawson went a flawless 5-0 with all victories coming by way of submission and four of which coming via his trademark armbar submission.

2008 saw a change of pace for Lawson as he started the year with consecutive kneebar submission wins. In September, Lawson stopped David Bouain with strikes in the first round.

The Ultimate Fighter

In late 2008, Lawson was rumored to make his UFC debut at February, 2009's UFC 95 against Shannon Gugerty. However, the bout was scratched due to a Gugerty injury and Lawson was instead selected as a lightweight contestant for the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter, The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom. Lawson earned a spot in the house in the first episode as he scored a 1:45 armbar submission win over James Bryan.

In episode 8, Lawson faced UFC veteran, Jason Dent for a spot in the semi finals. Lawson controlled the first round but gassed out in the second round and was submitted by the more experienced Dent with an anaconda choke.
