Profile

Jason "Dynamite" Dent (born June 12, 1980) is an American professional mixed martial artist and castmember of The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom.

He stands 5 ft. 10 in. (178 cm) tall and fights in the lightweight division (155 lbs.).

Dent is a two-time UFC veteran and currently can be seen as a contestant on TUF 9.

Early Career

Jason Dent made his professional mixed martial arts debut for the Indiana based Extreme Combat Challenge promotion on May 31, 2005. He submitted his opponent, Tim Newland, with a triangle choke 3:15 into round 3.

Three months later, Dent suffered his first professional defeat when he was on the losing end of a unanimous decision to Antonie Skinner.

Dent scored victories in his next three fights before losing again, this time to Japanese fighter Tetsuji Kato by decision at a SuperBrawl event.

Two submission wins followed, before Dent slipped up again. He suffered back to back defeats to future IFL lightweight champion, Ryan Schultz (TKO) and future WEC featherweight title challenger, Jeff Curran (decision).

Dent would halt the slide with a submission win in December of 2004, but he would lose his next bout via unanimous decision to Paulo Dantas at a King of the Cage event in February of 2005.

Dent went 2-1 for the rest of 2005 as he defeated lower level opponents and was submitted for the first time in his career by Brandon Garner in KOTC.

2006 saw Dent temporarily break away from his inconsistencies as he scored four succesive victories by either TKO or submission.

UFC Debut

Dent's success in 2006 earned him a call up to the UFC in September. He was called in to replace UFC debutant, Jason Reinhardt as an opponent for Roger Huerta on the show's undercard. Dent was battered by the impressive Huerta for three rounds, eventually losing a unanimous decision.

As a reward for his short notice bout with Huerta, Dent was given another fight in the UFC. At UFC 68 Dent faced Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, Gleison Tibau. Dent was again dominated and lost another unanimous decision..

Return to Smaller Shows

Dent was released from the UFC after losing to Tibau and returned to fighting on smaller promotions three months later. He scored two finishes in his next bouts over consecutive months to push his record to 15-8.

In November of 2007, Dent was defeated in a lightweight championship bout for the NAAFS promotion in Ohio by Torrance Taylor. He bounced back from the loss by picking up another Ohio promotion's belt in the IFBL lightweight champion just over a month later.

Dent submitted Nick Sorg in his next bout with an armbar before claiming the IFBL welterweight championship with a second round submission in September of 2008.

The Ultimate Fighter

In late 2008, Dent was selected as a lightweight contestant for the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter, The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom. Dent earned a spot in the house when he beat up and stopped Junie Browning sibling, Rob Browning in episode 3.

Dent progressed to the semi finals of the tournament in episode 8 when he picked up an anaconda choke submission win over a gassed Jeff Lawson in the second round of their match-up.
