Profile

George Roop (born November 10, 1981) is an American professional mixed martial artist and a former castmember of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir.

He stands 6 ft. 1 in. (185 cm) tall and fights in the lightweight division (155 lbs.).

Roop has spent the majority of his career in the Rage in the Cage organization but currently fights as a lightweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

George Roop made his professional debut for the Rage in the Cage promotion on May 26, 2006. He faced Austin Pascucci and submitted his opponent with an armbar midway through the second round.

After choking out Jason Sterling in his next bout, Roop suffered his first professional defeat in August, 2006 when he was submitted by a choke by Nick Hedrick at Rage in the Cage 85.

He responded to the loss with three straight victories in RITC before dropping the following two bouts to Ray Robinson (armbar) and Austin Pascucci (armbar) in a rematch from his debut bout.

Roop halted the two fight slide in July of 2007 when he submitted Andrew Belvado with a rear naked choke at a Cage Supremacy event.

He pushed his record to 8-3 when he picked up victories in his next two bouts.

The Ultimate Fighter

In early 2008, Roop was selected as one of 16 lightweight contestants for The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir, the 8th season of MMA reality show, The Ultimate Fighter.

In his qualifying bout to get into the house, Roop faced Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, Rolando Delgado. Roop defeated Delgado via unanimous decision.

Roop faced off against WEC veteran, John Polakowski on episode 10 for a spot in the semi-finals. Roop against walked away with a decision victory after controlling the fight on the ground for two rounds.

At the semi-final stage Roop was matched up against Phillipe Nover. Nover dominated the bout, eventually submitting Roop with a kimura.

At The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale, Roop faced fellow TUF 8 contestant, Shane Nelson on the show's undercard. In a tight affair the two similar styled opponents fought to a split decision that saw Roop on the losing end.

UFC

In his first fight removed from The Ultimate Fighter banner, Roop faced fellow TUF 8 contestant Dave Kaplan at UFC 98 in May of 2009. In another close fight, Roop was awarded the fight on two out of three judges scorecards giving him his first UFC victory.
