Profile

Fredson "The King of Wristlocks" Paixao (born May 13, 1979) is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Osvaldo Alves.

He stands 5 ft. 6 in. (168 cm) tall and fights in the featherweight division (145 lbs.).

Paixao currently fights as a featherweight for the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) organization.

Early Career

Fredson Paixao made his professional debut on May 15, 2004 for the Brazilian Jungle Fight promotion. He faced grappling wizard, Rani Yahya, and cancelled out Yahya's wizardry with his own and scored a unanimous decision victory.

Three months later, Paixao headed over to Japan where he faced Yoshiro Maeda in the Pancrase organization. Maeda through everything he had at Paixao but the Brazilian wouldn't go down, however it was enough to earn a unanimous decision and give Paixao his first loss.

Paixao bounced back from the loss to stop Andre Rodriguez in his next bout and then post four more successive victories after that.

The win streak came to an end in April, 2006 however, as Paixao was controlled for three rounds by Marcos Galvao at Jungle Fight 6.

In August, 2006, Paixao headed back to Japan where he faced DEEP featherweight champion, Masakazu Imanari in a non-title bout at DEEP: 25th Impact. Paixao upset the champion and recorded a majority decision victory after three rounds.

Paixao did not stick around to fight the champ for the title however, instead opting to head to US where he defeated Thomas Denny via armbar at a Global Fighting Championships event.

WEC

Just under a year after the Denny defeat, Paixao made his debut for the WEC. He faced fellow Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 40. Fabiano consistently gained top position and worked away for three rounds eventually being awarded the unanimous decision victory.

At WEC 42, Paixao looked to get his first professional victory against Cole Province on the preliminary card. It wasn't to be though as Province outworked him over the three rounds to get the decision. After the bout it was found that Province had tested positive for the anabolic steroid, Methasterone.
