Fernandes and Takaya went to war for the fifteen minutes with Takaya using excellent takedown defense to keep Fernandes at bay while blasting away with vicious power punches. Fernandes gave more than his share back and in each round had Takaya's back while standing against the ring ropes only for the fighters to be seperated. It was the positional advantage as well as a knockdown in the second round that proved telling for Fernandes as he received the nod from two of the judges.
