"Diamond" Dave Kaplan (born November 16, 1979) is an American professional mixed martial artist and was a castmember on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir.

He stands 5 ft. 6 in. (168 cm) tall and fights in the lightweight division. He made it to the quarter finals of TUF 8 and now fights as a lightweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

Dave Kaplan made his professional mixed martial arts debut on September 17, 2005 at Battleline Productions event against Steve Headden. Kaplan defeated Headden via second round TKO.

Just over seven months later, Kaplan returned to the cage against Rich Swawola who he also defeated via TKO.

In November of 2006, Kaplan suffered his first professional loss via triangle choke submission to Cristiano Marcello at Fury FC event.

The Ultimate Fighter

Kaplan earned a spot in the cast of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir, the 8th installment of the ZUFFA produced MMA reality show, The Ultimate Fighter.

In the first episode of the series, Kaplan fought David Bernstein. Kaplan defeated Bernstein via rear naked choke in the first round to earn a spot in the house.

Kaplan did not fight until Episode 8, where he faced off against Phillipe Nover. Kaplan talked a big game with special focus on his ability to take a punch. Mere seconds into the fight, Nover dropped Kaplan with punches before securing a rear naked choke to seal the victory.

After the bout, Kaplan claimed it was his gameplan to test out Nover's power that cost him the victory and that he is still a better fighter than Nover. So adamant was Kaplan that he could be not knocked out that he drunkenly enlisted the help of another inebbriated castmember in Tom Lawlor to punch him in the face. After some pondering, Lawlor unleashed a full power right hand that sent Kaplan into unconsciousness.

Kaplan remained relatively quiet for the remainder of the series and will return to the cage at The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale where he will take on Junie Browning.
