Profile

Charlie Valencia (born x, 1975) is an American professional mixed martial artist training out of Valencia Freestyle Fighting.

He stands 5 ft. 3 in. (160 cm) tall and fights in the bantamweight division (135 lbs.).

Valencia is a former King of the Cage lightweight (155 lbs.) champion and currently fights as a bantamweight for the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) organization.

Early Career

Charlie Valencia made his professional mixed martial arts debut on March 11, 2000 for the Cobra Fighting Federation. He was victorious in his debut, defeating Octavio Moreles via unanimous decision.

Valencia knocked off David Velasquez in his next bout before making a successful King of the Cage debut against Bobby Gamboa after Gamboa's shoulder dislocated after a slam.

The win gave Valencia a chance to fight for the KOTC lightweight title. He faced Velasquez in a rematch for the belt and walked away with the championship in the first round when he forced the tap with a rear naked choke.

Valencia defended his title twice more in his next two bouts before taking a two year break from the sport. He eventually got back into action in March, 2006 where he scored a submission win over Del Hawkins in a non-title bout.

Three months later, Valencia faced off against KOTC Bantamweight (145 lbs.) Champion, Urijah Faber at KOTC: Predator. Valencia was no match for Faber and was choked out just 3:09 into the first frame.

Valencia was unable to bounce back from his first professional loss in his next bout, as he would be stopped with punches by future fellow WEC competitor, Cub Swanson inside the first round.

WEC

Valencia signed to the WEC in early 2007 and made his debut at WEC 26. He met Antonio Banuelos in his bantamweight (135 lbs.) debut and made it an impressive first showing as he knocked out Chuck Liddell's training partner in just 3:12 of the first round.

He was unable to string together back to back victories though as he ran into a road block in the form of the undefeated, Brian Bowles at WEC 28. Valencia hung in for the first round but was submitted with a rear naked choke midway through the second.

After getting back on track with a submission win at WEC 31, Valencia would drop his following two bouts at WEC 32 (knockout loss to Yoshiro Maeda) and WEC 34 (unanimous decision to Dominick Cruz).

In his first bout for 2009, Valencia evened his record inside the WEC with a unanimous decision over Seth Dikun at WEC 38.

Valencia will return at WEC 43 when he faces Coty Wheeler on the show's undercard.
