Profile

Carlos "Natural Born Killer" Condit (born April 26, 1984) is an American professional mixed martial artist and the last ever WEC welterweight champion.

He stands 6 ft. 2 in. (185 cm) tall and fights in the welterweight division.

He was the last ever WEC welterweight champion before being transferred over to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early Career

Carlos Condit made his professional mixed martial arts debut on September 6, 2002 against Nick Roscoria at Aztec Challenge 1. He submitted Roscoria with a rear naked choke in the first round to start his career off on a positive note.

At the end of 2003, Condit remained undefeated with first round finishes of Tommy Gouge, Tyrell McElroy and David Lindemeyer in a variety of smaller promotions.

Condit kicked off 2004 with a first round TKO over UFC veteran, Brad Gumm. He followed that victory with two submission wins over Jarvis Brennaman and future TUF 5 contestant, Brandon Melendez.

In September of 2004, Condit suffered his first professional loss when he submitted to a triangle choke from Carlo Prater at Fightworld's second event.

He bounced back from the loss with four straight victories in similar smaller promotions, pushing his professional record to 11-1.

In October of 2005, Condit made his debut for the Japanese based, Pancrase organization and subsequently suffered his second professional loss. Condit was submitted by future Sengoku lightweight champion, Satoru Kitaoka via heel hook, 3:57 into the first round.

Rumble on the Rock

Immediately following the Kitaoka loss, Condit switched things up and headed over to the Hawaiian based, Rumble on the Rock promotion. He made his debut for the Hilo based organization on November 5th and defeated his opponent Ross Ebanez via TKO just 1:27 into round 1.

At Rumble on the Rock 8, Condit entered an 8-man 177 lbs. tournament that was filled with, at the time, future and present stars. The field included Anderson Silva, Yushin Okami, Jake Shields, Dave Menne, Renato Verissimo, Frank Trigg and Ronald Jhun. The tournament would be spread over two events, with the first event holding the quarter finals and the second holding both the semi finals and the final.

In the quarter finals, Condit faced off against UFC veteran and home town favourite, Renato Verissimo. In the most impressive performance of the night, Condit destroyed "Charuto" with knees and punches just 17 seconds into the first round.

At Rumble on the Rock 9, Condit was matched up against former two time UFC title challenger, Frank Trigg in the semi finals. In a peformance equally as impressive as his quarter final, Condit dispatched of Trigg via triangle/armbar submission in just 1:22.

Condit would meet future EliteXC welterweight champion, Jake Shields in the final later that night. In a close and competitive affair, Shields prevailed by unanimous decision after three rounds.

WEC

Condit followed up his impressive tournament display with a disappointing loss to "The Spoiler", Pat Healy two months later. A return to Pancrase followed, with Condit picking up three stoppage victories including one over UFC veteran, Koji Oishi.

In January of 2007, Condit was picked up by World Extreme Cagefighting and made his debut on January 20 at WEC 25. WEC 25 was the first WEC event to be held under the management of ZUFFA. Condit faced off against Kyle Jensen who he defeated via rear naked choke just 2:10 into the first round.

At WEC 26, Condit was given a shot at the vacant WEC welterweight title. He headlined the event against UFC veteran, John Alessio. At 4:59 of round 2, Alessio tapped out to a Condit rear naked choke, earning "The Natural Born Killer" the WEC welterweight championship.

The first defense of Condit's title came at WEC 29 against UFC veteran Brock Larson who came in with a gaudy 21-1 professional record. Condit looked great though as he made Larson submit to an armbar just 2:21 into the first round.

A little over six months later, Condit was given the chance to avenge the first loss of his career when he faced off against Carlo Prater in the main event of WEC 32. Condit took little time in avenging the loss as well as he latched onto a guillotine choke which forced the tap 3:48 into round 1.

At WEC 35, Condit faced Japanese fighter, Hiromitsu Miura in the third defense of his welterweight title. In a thrilling back and forth fight, Condit eventually came out on top at the end of the fourth round when a barrage of unanswered punches on the ground forced the stoppage.

UFC Career

Condit was meant to make the fourth defense of his WEC title in March in a rematch against Brock Larson. Condit however had to pull out with a severely sprained wrist and ZUFFA decided that instead of rescheduling the fight, they would instead move Condit and Larson over to the UFC's welterweight division and do away with the WEC welterweight division.

Condit will now make his UFC debut in the headlining bout of UFC Fight Night 18 in April against Martin Kampmann. He lost an impressively competitive split decision to Kampmann.
