Profile

Billy "Badass" Evangelista (born x, x) is an American professional mixed martial artist training out of the American Kickboxing Academy and Team Buhawe.

He stands 5 ft. 8 in. (173 cm) tall and fights in the lightweight division (155 lbs.).

Evangelista currently fights as a lightweight for the Strikeforce promotion.

Debut

Billy Evangelista made his professional mixed martial arts debut on January 13, 2006 at WEC 18: Unfinished Business. He faced the much more experienced, Ryan Healy but came from nowhere to spring the upset and stop Healy with punches and elbows midway through the second round.

Strikeforce

Just over a year after his debut, Evangelista was picked up by the burgeoning, California based, Strikeforce promotion. He made his debut at Strikeforce: Young Guns and impressively stopped Isaiah Hill with punches shortly into the first frame.

After two more wins outside of the promotion, Evangelista returned to the promotion to close out 2007 with a split decision win over Clint Coronel.

2008 was a very impressive year for Evangelista as he opened it with a third round knockout over booted TUF 5 contestant, Marlon Sims.

Three months later, Evangelista scored a tight split decision over decorated grappler, Nam Phan. He followed that win with a unanimous decision victory over UFC veteran, Luke Caudillo at Strikeforce: Payback.

Evangelista opened 2009 with a victory over Harris Sarmiento inside the Palace Fighting Championships organization.

Four months later, Evangelista was given headlining duties for ShoMMA 1, the first of Strikeforce's "Challenger" events on Showtime. He met EliteXC veteran, Mike Aina and in a controversial bout, Evangelista was disqualified for kneeing Aina in the head while he was on the ground. Replays showed however, that the knee had in fact landed on the shoulder. Evangelista protested the decision and with testimony from the attending referee, Herb Dean, in his defense the CSAC had the decision changed to a No Contest.

Evangelista again received main event duties when he faced UFC veteran, Jorge Gurgel at ShoMMA 4 in November.
