Bibiano "The Flash" Fernandes is a Brazilian mixed martial artist and Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt.

He stands 5 ft. 7 in. tall and fights in the featherweight division (145 lbs.).

He is a K-1 Hero's veteran and currently fights for the Japanese based, DREAM promotion.

Early Career

Bibiano Fernandes made his professional mixed martial arts debut on October 23, 2004 in the Brazilian based Jungle Fight promotion. He quickly submitted his opponent, Luis Figueroa in 31 seconds with a rear naked choke to kick his career off to a positive start.

In only his second professional fight, Fernandes was given the colossal task of taking on reigning King of the Cage bantamweight champion and future WEC featherweight champion, Urijah Faber on October 28, 2006. Fernandes' speed and jiu jitsu skills gave Faber trouble early and he had the "California Kid" in some rough spots but a cut sustained on his forehead saw the bout stopped a little over four minutes into the round, with Fernandes loudly protesting.

At K-1 Hero's 11, Fernandes continued to face the elite of the division when he faced Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto. Fernandes hung in with the dynamic Japanese fighter but ultimately lost a unanimous decision after three rounds.

Fernandes understandibly took a step down in class for his next couple of opponents as he faced off against unheralded fighters, Juan Barrantes and Len Tam in the Raw Combat organization in 2008. Fernandes defeated both opponents by decision and triangle choke respectively.

DREAM

Fernandes will next compete as a part of the DREAM 2009 Featherweight (139 lbs.) 16 man tournament. Fernandes will face Takafumi Otsuka in the opening round at DREAM 7 on March 8, 2009.
