"Smooth" Benson Henderson (born x, 19xx) is an American professional mixed martial artist training out of the MMA Lab.

He stands 5 ft. 9 in. (175 cm) tall and fights in the lightweight division (155 lbs.).

Henderson is currently a lightweight contender in the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) organization.

Early Career

Benson Henderson made his professional mixed martial arts debut on November 18, 2006 for the Midwest Championship Fighting promotion. In his debut Henderson forced his opponent, Dan Gregary, to submit to strikes in the first round.

In his next bout, Henderson suffered his first professional defeat as he was knocked cold by Chad Klingensmith in the second round.

2007 was a flawless year for Henderson as he picked up three stoppage wins to improve to 4-1.

After two late-fight submission wins to kick off 2008, Henderson picked up the biggest victory of his young career as he used his wrestling and striking to defeat UFC veteran, Diego Saraiva via unanimous decision.

WEC

With the Saraiva victory, Henderson was picked up by the World Extreme Cagefighting organization. He made his WEC debut at WEC 38 against dangerous striker, Anthony Njokuani. The first round was close but Henderson seized an oppurtunity early in the second round to tap out Njokuani with a guillotine choke.

In April, 2009, Henderson met Team TakeDown fighter and lightweight prospect, Shane Roller. Henderson was rocked early by Roller and looked to be on the verge of being stopped. He bounced back to his feet however and knocked Roller down and forced the stoppage.

Due to WEC lightweight champion, Jamie Varner being unable to defend his belt due to multiple severe injuries, the WEC decided to create an Interim lightweight title. Henderson was chosen to contest for it against former title challenger, Donald Cerrone. The bout is rumored to take place at WEC 43 in September, 2009.
