Profile

Alex Schoenauer (born May 5, 1976) is an Argentine and American professional mixed martial artist training out of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He stands 6 ft. 3 in. (191 cm) tall and fights in the light heavyweight (205 lbs.) division.

Schoenauer was a castmber on The Ultimate Fighter 1 and was multiple fight veteran of the IFL. He is currently unsigned to any major promotion.

Early Career

Alex Schoenauer made his professional mixed martial arts debut on May 19, 2001 at a Slam Entertainment event. He submitted his opponent, Gabe Nelson, with an armbar in just :34 seconds to impressively start his career.

By the end of 2001, Schoenauer had racked up two more submission victories which he then followed by two TKO victories in 2002.

A victory over Jason Grinch in 2003 pushed his record to a flawless 6-0.

The Ultimate Fighter

With the unbeaten start to his career, Schoenauer was selected as one of eight light heavyweight contestants for the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter.

As a member of Randy Couture's team, Schoenauer was matched up against Forrest Griffin in episode 9 and looked good early - cutting Griffin - but was ultimately overwhelmed and submitted to strikes at 1:20 of round 1.

At The Ultimate Fighter 1 Finale, Schoenauer tried a drop to middleweight to face Team Couture teammate, Mike Swick. Schoenauer was blitzed by Swick who dropped and stopped him with a vicious flurry at :20 of round 1.

IFL

Schoenauer would be released by the UFC after the Swick loss and he got his post-TUF career off to a poor start three months later when he was submitted by Buck Meredith in the first round.

A 29 seconds guillotine choke submission victory of Shannon Ritch followed before Schoenauer was choked out again - this time by future UFC competitor, Jason Brilz.

Schoenauer quickly rebounded with a victory 11 days later but was submitted again to kick off 2006 when he submitted to a choke from fellow TUF 1 contestant, Lodune Sincaid.

In April, 2006, Schoenauer pushed his record to 9-4 when he pounded out TUF 2's Kenny Stevens in the first round of a WEF event.

Following the win over Stevens, Schoenauer was picked up by upstart promotion, the International Fight League. He made his IFL debut against UFC veteran, Travis Wiuff, submitting the grizzled veteran with a heel hook in the second round.

Fighting three more times for the IFL in 2006, Schoenauer saw his IFL record drop to 2-2 as he was submitted by Jamaal Patterson and Aaron Stark while scoring a guillotine choke victory of his own in between those losses against Japanese fighter, Kazuhiro Hamanaka.

2007 did not get off to a good start for Schoenauer as he dropped a split decision to Pat Miletich student, Mike Ciesnolevicz.

He stopped his two fight slide though by scoring back to back victories of his own as he decisioned Brian Ebersole and knocked out PRIDE veteran, Allan Goes.

Schoenauer closed out 2007 with another split decision loss to Mike Ciesnolevicz and a unanimous decision loss to former UFC light heavyweight title contender, Vladimir Matyushenko.

In April, 2008, Schoenauer had his last bout for the IFL in which he defeated Brendan Barrett via split decision after three rounds.

2009 - Present

After the demise of the IFL, Schoenauer signed with the ZUFFA operated, World Extreme Cagefighting organization. He was set to make his WEC debut at WEC 36 against Steve Steinbeiss but was injured and replaced by Carmelo Marrero.

The WEC would fold its light heavyweight and middleweight divisions into the UFC soon after and Schoenauer's contract was not transferred over.

He will return to action in September, 2009 when he faces Paulo Filho at a Bitetti Combat event in Brazil.
