Profile
Abel "The Silent Assassin" Cullum (born April 21, 1987) is an American professional mixed martial artist and the current King of the Cage flyweight champion (135 lbs.).
He stands 5 ft. 7 in. tall and fights in the bantamweight division (135 lbs.).
Cullum was a challenger for the EliteXC 140 lbs. title and currently fights as a featherweight (139 lbs.) for DREAM.
Early Career
Abel Cullum made his professional mixed martial arts debut for the Desert Extreme promotion on September 17, 2005. He submitted his opponent, Michael Chupa, with a triangle choke in the very first round.
In December, at another Desert Extreme event, Cullum's record was brought back down to a level pegging as he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Richard Montano after two rounds.
Fighting five more times for the Desert Extreme promotion in 2006, Cullum picked up five victories with all of them in the first round by either TKO or submission.
Cullum rounded out 2006 with an armbar submission win over Alfredo Herrea at a Universal Fight Promotions event in October.
Cullum began 2007 with a submission victory over Gerald Sedillo at Southwest Fury event in March, which was followed by a TKO over Jasper Church on another Desert Extreme card in June.
Pro Elite
In October of 2007, Cullum signed to fight in the King of the Cage promotion, an organization that recently had been bought out by Pro Elite.
In his debut for KOTC, Cullum scored a KO victory over Eddie Armendariz at just 1:17 of the first round to push his winning streak to nine.
After submitting his next two opponents within the organization he picked up the King of the Cage flyweight championship (135 lbs.). The latter of which came in the fifth round against Ryan Diaz via armbar.
At ShowXC 8 (another ProElite run event), Cullum filled in for Bao Quach in a fight for the vacant EliteXC 140 lbs. championship against Wilson Reis. In a high quality bout that featured some great transitions on the ground, Cullum came out on the losing end of a unanimous decision.
Cullum bounced back under three months later in December of 2008 with a quick rear naked choke victory over Brett Roller in King of the Cage to defend his flyweight title.
DREAM
In early 2009, Cullum was named to compete as one of 15 competitors in the 2009 DREAM Featherweight (139 lbs.) Grand Prix. Cullum faced Akiyo Nishiura in the opening round at DREAM 7 on March 8 in Saitama, Japan. Cullum defeated Nishiura via unanimous decision after two rounds.
He will face Hideo Tokoro in the quarter finals at DREAM 9 on May 26, 2009.
